Well, first of, I just wanted to say how much I love what you do at GR.
Secondly, I would love to get into Games Journalism. Where would be a great place to start?
Thanks!
Secondly, I’d have to say write. ALL THE TIME. Keep a blog, write about video games, and most importantly whore (not literally) yourself out. Apply for internships, offer to contribute to other gaming sites. Do more than you have to do.
Before I was at GR, I have always kept a personal blog, but I always wrote it as though I were writing to an audience. Before I got an internship at GR, I sent out 20+ resumes a day while scouring craigslist. Check out writing jobs and writing gigs. Even if it has nothing to do with video games, the more published work you have out there, the more potential employers will notice.
I started off as a video intern, but I eventually offered to start writing articles. After proving that I could do it, they started letting me write previews and reviews. Now I’m freelancing for a few magazines, even though when I first inquired about writing for magazines, I was turned down.
Just keep trying. Find a way “in” and work your way up. :)
