LIZZIE CUEVAS

AJAPOPFILMS is not only an up-and-coming video outlet for really great music videos and photos for The Hundred Days, Fans of Jimmy Century, and The Glowing Stars, but founder Angelo Ibanez is also my best friend.

He’s spent a year on this music video for our friends Seeking Empire and it premiered today. Please take a few minutes to check it out and rate it. It takes a lot to create something you believe in and put it out there for the world. Not everyone can do it.

Proud of you, Angelo! <3

“Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen is one of my favorite songs of all time, and it was such a blast covering it with Matt Payne for The Glowing Stars. We played this song since our first show with Anamanaguchi and Peelander-Z at the DNA Lounge on April 7, 2011, and we’re playing it one last time at our next show at the Japantown Peace Plaza in San Francisco on September 4.

Not sure what song we’ll cover next, but I’ll sure miss playing this one! Look out for a free mp3 download of our cover around September 4!

It takes a lot of effort for us to put together a good cover, and we enjoyed sharing our cover of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” on our Quest Coast tour (and recording it for our special edition release of Anything Past That).

We’re planning on retiring this particular cover after we play it at the Convergence Festival in Japantown on September 4, so for a very limited time (ONE DAY!) we’ll be making the recording a FREE DOWNLOAD on our Bandcamp page! Be sure to join our mailing list (on the right sidebar) and follow us onTwitter and Facebook to get the link! We’ll release it closer to Convergence.

I LOVE when everyone sings along. <3

I miss this. Here’s a video of the song we opened with at the first PulsewaveSF at DNA Lounge on July 7, 2011. We got to have a really awesome opening video by AJAPOPFILMS play before we got on stage. It highlighted the shows of our Quest Coast Tour. After the video played, we started our set with “Epilogue.”

I love these guys! I also miss them. Here’s a video by my best friend AJAPOPFILMS of Awkward Terrible at last week’s PulsewaveSF. So much love in this.

I also interviewed them for The @Gamer Podcast this week. Oh yeah, I’m so far behind on this blog that I forgot to mention that I’m no longer with GamesRadar.com. Now I’m Associate Editor of @Gamer Magazine. The crew is way awesome so far, but I already knew that going in. ;)

From our Seattle portion of the Quest Coast Tour. BLOOD - IT’S IN THIS VIDEO. Awesome work by the notorious AJAPOPFILMS. Super excited about our homecoming show next Thursday, 7/7 at DNA Lounge in San Francisco.

I miss Portland already. Video by AJAPOPFILMS. Song: “Got It Bad” acoustic version featuring Matt Payne on melodica. Shot at Apes Tapes haus in Portland, OR. 6/23/11

Back from tour. A LOT has happened since Maker Faire 2011 and now, I’ve just been too busy to update this thing. So you’ll probably see random updates in no particular order throughout the week. :)

Here’s a video by AJAPOPFILMS on the Portland, OR portion of our Quest Coast Tour with crashfaster.

If you haven’t seen this yet, you kind of have to.

Holy!!! My band The Glowing Stars finally played our first show opening for Anamanaguchi and Peelander-Z at DNA Lounge last night, and it was seriously the best night of my life. Wait, yeah, it was. Those who weren’t actually at the show totally missed out, but were able to catch it on the livestream. BUT, if you STILL missed that, someone luckily posted our entire set on YouTube.

I had so much fun, and the guys from Anamanaguchi and Peelander-Z were so awesome. I’m super glad crashfaster (who hooked us up with the show) got to perform for a bit before us as well. Also DJ-ing between sets on his iPad was Doctor Popular who played a GREAT selection of music.

So what’s next from here? Well, finishing up our EP, of course, which people were able to start pre-ordering at our show. We’re releasing a limited run of physical copies in the form of custom USB drives made out of old Game Boy cartridges. We’ll be opening up pre-orders online probably next week. We also have a show lined up for May, and a few shows in June, as part of our first West Coast tour. More on that later.

If you took any photos last night, feel free to share them on The Glowing Stars’ Facebook Fan Page at http://www.facebook.com/theglowingstars

Also, I FINALLY updated my links page and added a BUNCH of cool people you should check out, including the people I mentioned above AND Digital Accomplice (who helped with our band’s mini webisodes), Mike Hales (who designed the flyer for the DNA Lounge show), and Jonathan Mann and Tommy Wallach, who are playing a show in San Francisco in THREE DAYS! Please come! I’ll be there!

I also updated my articles section, which includes all of the print work I’ve done so far. The online portion isn’t really updated… I’ll have to look for those.

Thanks to everyone who made last night amazing!
