LIZZIE CUEVAS

Wow, I’m pretty late with this! GamesRadar’s Trailer Trash Theatre - Episode 14 went up last week, and we made fun of trailers for Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, The Kings’ Crusade, Kinectimals, and Ys Chronicles I & II. We also have a pretty hilarious outtake on YouTube at this link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwTtv7WozIk

Today, my band The Glowing Stars will be releasing a second demo track on our Bandcamp page. If you’ve been following me on Twitter, you’d know the song is called “Got It Bad.” You’d also probably know that we played a live version of that song on this week’s TalkRadar podcast. And speaking of podcasts, I was also a guest on this week’s @Gamer Magazine podcast. Hooray for company incest!

I’ll post those up on here whenever they go live, and whenever I remember to actually post them here. I’ve been pretty busy with regular work, band stuff, and freelance work. This week I’m working on my biggest game review yet for @Gamer Magazine - but you’ll hear more about that on the podcast.

So much content, so little time. Currently in the pipeline: video from the EFF event, working on the EP, PAX East, band videos, booking shows, guest blogging, more game reviews, and trying to keep a sane mind. :)

Highlights of 2010

There are about eight hours left of this year, and I wanted to end it with a post about my highlights of 2010 with a photo for each month. Okay, some months have two photos, but they were just that good. What a great year! I hope 2011 will bring the same if not more luck.

January

Got my first tattoo at Braindrops on Haight of the Philippine sun and stars. This was January 2, 2010 I think. I suppose this is a highlight since it’s on me forever now.

February

I brought home the love of my life, Malkin! He was born January 9, 2010, but I didn’t bring him home until February. My life has changed ever since. He’s the best.

March

Celebrated my birthday at Element Lounge. I’m not much of a club person, but this was one of the best birthdays since all of my favorite people were there, and my BFF was the best date - he made sure I stuck to clears, and drank water between each drink. Had a good buzz and woke up the next day with no hangover!

April

Put together a Halo 2 night for GamesRadar since they were canceling Xbox Live support of original Xbox games. Yeah, this was a highlight - I effin’ kick ass at Halo 2, man. I mean, I’m okay.

May

This photo was actually taken in June, but in May I worked on a film project for my Philippine Society and Culture class and I met some of the coolest people in that class and learned a lot from the people I interviewed for the documentary.

June

Attended my first E3, and I got to go as an intern for Qore, an interactive digital magazine on the PlayStation Network hosted by Veronica Belmont. I only really got to see the showfloor on the last day since we were busy with interviews the first two days, but it was a great learning experience. Plus all the open bar parties. :)

July

I launched an MST3K-style webshow for GamesRadar called Trailer Trash Theatre. We’re on hiatus as you all know, but I can’t wait for it to relaunch in 2011 because it’s seriously a lot of fun to do.

Oh, watch out. Double photo month. July was also the month I moved into my current place and so far it’s been working out really well. I love my roommates. I thought I learned how to hold my liquor being in the videogames industry, but holy christ can my roommates drink.

August

My old band Sputterdoll played our 4th annual “Last Show Ever” at Thee Parkside. It was amazing. We also covered “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga.

I also saw my first Judgement Day show at Great American Music Hall in August and was hooked ever since. I remember my bandmate Matt begging me to go to the show because he had no one to go with, and I was too lazy to go. I only went because he offered to pick me up. And yeah, glad I went.

September

I got my first review published in a magazine! It’s a very different feeling having your words printed on nice, glossy paper rather than on the internet where everyone and anyone can be a blogger (hello!). My first review was for Front Mission Evolved and it was published in @Gamer Magazine.

I attended a Dead Rising 2 zombie crawl in late September. All I’m gonna say is that’s probably the most drunk I’ve been at an industry event. That is all.

October

Charlie and Cherry’s wedding! I cried when I got the invitation, and I cried during the ceremony. I love both of these people and it was really special seeing both of them get married.

November

I met my longtime husband (longer than Master Chief, even) Rivers Cuomo at seriously the best Weezer show I’ve ever been to. Pinkerton night at Nob Hill Masonic Center. omg drooool.

December

Recording the Talkradar special: “A GamesRadar Christmas Carol” was really the first time I started to feel the holiday season this year, and everyone’s fake British accents had me laughing all over the place.

And of course…

Things started really picking up for me and Matt this month with our upcoming 8-bit rock band The Glowing Stars. We’ve been writing songs, and we have great plans for 2011.

Thanks for a great year 2010! I met some of the most amazing people this year and made some of the greatest memories.

Happy holidays, GamesRadar style. I finally just finished my last work day of the year, and am looking forward to spending the next week concentrating mainly on my new 8-bit indie rock band with fellow former Sputterdoll member, Matt Payne.

But before we get into any of that, click play above for a special Talkradar episode: A GamesRadar Christmas Carol. It’s basically the whole staff of GamesRadar doing a videogames version of the classic Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, but with really bad fake British accents. It’s only about 20 minutes, and a really fun listen, so listen! I play three different characters, with each accent worse than the last. So I wasn’t made to act.

I also put together this list of videogame-related holiday cards we’ve received this year (and some probably last year). Check it out below. We also included a special GamesRadar holiday card just for you.

GamesRadar: Happy Holidays from the people who make your games

Happy holidays, everyone. Keep checking back for updates on my new band. We already have a few songs written with more to come!

GamesRadar | TalkRadar 128 - Assassination by banana

I made an appearance on the last segment of TalkRadar 128, the official gaming podcast of GamesRadar.com, sort of by accident. Long story short, they stole me for the community segment, so check it out. I talk about where I’ve been hiding the last few months, as well as the status of Trailer Trash Theatre.

halo 2 halo 3 halo: reach talkradar gamesradar xbox

It’s been a while since I’ve updated, and a lot of things have happened that I wanted to post, but my archaic ways of hand-coding HTML don’t make it very fun to maintain a website, so I neglected it and now it got suspended. But I figure it’s time to make things easier for me and just post to Tumblr. So there. That’s out of the way now.

Last month I wrote The Top 7… Classic Xbox Live games we’ll miss for GamesRadar. It’s my first Top 7 feature, and I was happy to write it in memory of all the original Xbox games that are no longer playable over Xbox Live (Microsoft discontinued the support on April 15, 2010). I also talked a bit about it on TalkRadar 97. Here’s a short clip of T-Nag discussing hentai games and Engrish things on that episode:

Since Halo 2 was a lot of things to me - it was my first FPS, my first Xbox game, my first online multiplayer game, and so on - I put together a GamesRadar Halo 2 night, apparently the last one ever (was there a first?), and it was really fun. It reminded me of all the late nights up playing Halo 2 and bullshitting around with my friends online. God. That sounds totally dorky.

Anyway, I still think Halo 2 is better than Halo 3. I really didn’t like Halo 3 that much. There was too much going on with the new weapons, and the extra stuff like the bubble shield, and the shield depleting thing… Now I’m playing Halo: Reach Beta and I think it’s an improvement. Still no “2”, but it’s not bad. They seemed to have gotten rid of the stuff I didn’t like about “3”. Except for the hammer weapon. Fucking cheap shit…

gamesradar talkradar skate 3

I really want to know what kind of people created this co-op trailer for Skate 3. Every so often we’ll throw up videos on the site with a little blurb. When I got this trailer, I didn’t really think much of it until I watched it. Then I was just like oh my goodness… It’s like they went on Urban Dictionary and pulled out random phrases to throw into a new, “hip” video. Well, here is the write-up I did for it. And then they talked about it on TalkRadar:
